ALEK YERBURY & THE NATIONAL REBIRTH PARTY
WORDS: SAMUEL WEAVER
Madness speaks with the leader and founder of the NRP. We investigate how we will fare following the ‘inevitable’ electoral success of Britain’s newest registered far-right political party?
“Fascist mentality is the mentality of the "little man," who is enslaved and craves authority and is at the same time rebellious. It is no coincidence that all fascist dictators stem from the reactionary milieu of the little man. The industrial magnate and the feudal militarist exploit this social fact for their own purposes, after it has evolved within the framework of the general suppression of life-impulses. In the form of fascism, mechanistic, authoritarian civilization reaps from the suppressed little man only what it has sown in the masses of subjugated human beings in the way of mysticism, militarism, automatism, over the centuries. This little man has studied the big man's behaviour all too well, and he reproduces it in a distorted and grotesque fashion” - Wilhelm Reich, The Mass Psychology of Fascism, 1933
I am a victim of my own taste sometimes. This has varying outcomes; a new jacket that I cannot afford, a last-minute Pogues ticket, an illogically painful situationship, a last-minute holiday to Kyiv as Russian tanks fuelled 300 miles away. This also led me to the Party.
My interest in the far-right has not had the most academically advanced process, evenings at university spent smoking cannabis whilst laughing at far-right vloggers has mutated my algorithm; in the eyes of my Youtube overlords I must be a refugee-hotel regular with 8,000 devoted followers on TikTok and a converted post-war ground floor flat in Ellesmere Port, littered with empty Monster cans and carcasses of oven-pizzas overflowing my bin. NO - of course I don’t recycle! Not one of the alphabet mafia am I! Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. ANYWAY - enough of the culture wars tropes - many years later my algorithm led me, clean and sober, to a video with 800 views; a selection of speeches from the Southern Multi-Branch Meeting of the National Rebirth Party, published on 10 December 2025. It wasn’t the esteemed keynote speaker, former BNP Activist Piers Mellor, that piqued my interest; sat to his far-left, if only physically, was a young man dressed astonishingly like a not-so-prolific Austrian painter-cum-architect of the worst crime against humanity ever committed.
Exactly 83 years earlier, on 10 December 1942, Raczyński's Note was published by the Polish Government-in-Exile; the first document to officially report on the existence of extermination camps in Treblinka, Bełżec and Sobibór. These very institutions were later dwarfed in scale amidst a larger web of industrial slaughter-houses, human ovens, intensive labour camps and rape dungeons; built with one explicit purpose; the extinction of European Jewry, the mad and insane, and any other indigestible morsel of humanity. Man fell in this time; never had the fruits of the industrial revolution met the flames of ancient barbarism with such efficient malice; never before had bones, teeth, brains, and nails, become mere objects, stored in equality with jewellery, shoes, rags, wigs; never had participation in brutality been so widespread and so consensual.
Alek Yerbury sat, watching Piers Mellor in full flow, as he traced British Nationalism’s history from the end of the Second World War to the modern day. I could not stop watching him.
There was something different about Alek Yerbury and his Party. Unlike his predecessors, aesthetically condemned to the notorious Johnsonism of ‘stale booze and fags’, there was an image - it just wasn’t theirs. His philtrum concealed by an infamous borderline toothbrush moustache, the tan gabardine trench coat, the three-breasted suits, the constant curling and twitching of his left paw as he spoke. It all felt very familiar. Far-right researchers have been tracking Alek Yerbury for a number of years - with Hope not Hate labelling him the ‘Hull Hitler’ as early as 2023. Whilst highly active on X, no major media outlet seemed to have spoken with Alek Yerbury, nor engaged directly with the Party since its foundation.
Historically, the mentally ill had not particularly flourished under fascist regimes. Aktion T4 resulted in the forced euthanisia of an estimated 300,000 people - this all sprung from a simple note, allowing doctors to grant ‘mercy death’ to the ‘incurable’.
Madness needed to speak to Alek Yerbury. The most interesting claim of the National Rebirth Party, founded 80 years after the National Socialist war machine began to whimper, was that they were the first party of its kind.
The Party, Alek, and other key NRP figures were hesitant to speak to Madness. After prolonged attempts, Madness received confirmation that Alek Yerbury would be happy to talk remotely.
Over email on a hot British Sunday afternoon (who said traditional British values were dead!) Alek took Madness through the history of the NRP and his plans for the insane.
The Party, he explained, had become an inevitability when it became apparent that others, presumably fascist lager chugging street movements, were going to doom the movement if there was not a ‘serious organisation with ideological goals’. Alek and the NRP were the answer. Having reviewed extensively their videography which had been increasingly spluttered over X and YouTube to hateful, supportive, but mainly comedic comments, Madness asked Alek if he felt he was being taken seriously.
“The overwhelming majority of the time, when we do outreach or campaigning to the general public, the response from people is positive. Even if they do not necessarily immediately agree, they do take it seriously. It is easy to dismiss things as being mad or a joke on the internet, but it is a very different dynamic in the real world when you are having real conversations with people.” Whilst Madness will have to take his word on this, the NRP’s content does reveal a tectonic shift in the British conscience. Would a stool emblazoned with Aryan-adjacent symbols accompanied by a small man dressed ever so similarly to Austria’s most disavowed son, even survive an hour on the streets of Leeds CIty Centre twenty years ago, let alone be treated with actual intrigue and enthusiasm, as some of their content reveals.
Aktion T4 and the treatment of indigestible mental health by Hitler’s decree was a final manifestation of centuries of confusion about how to deal with madness; to confine, to deport, to kill, to torture, to educate, to tear apart? Unfortunately for the mad, the insane, the addict, the indigestible, Alek Yerbury provides us with the NRP’s stance - and it is not promising.
“There are circumstances where it is appropriate to leave people to their own devices, but there are also circumstances where even if you sympathise with someone, they still have to be contained for the greater good. I believe this is a position that most people would agree is fair. Even if it can result in some harsh treatment, it is not unfair treatment and there is an element of acceptance that the good of one person can never outweigh the good of the community as a whole. There are some cases where people are mentally ill in a way that can never be cured, and regardless of whether it is their fault or not, their presence around others will always create a danger. In these cases, the only option available is to contain or neutralise those people, however difficult it may be.”
Aktion T4 was just a note. Madness’s conversations with Alek Yerbury were just a chain of emails. But the Party, recently registered with the Electoral Commission and therefore, viable for election to power in this country via democratic means. Advocating for the neutralisation of humanity, in any manner, is not a slippery slope; it is a tsunami on the beaches of kindness, love, and peaceful co-existence with fellow man.
The Party has 20 ‘Demands’ which form their National Agenda. “These are the ends towards which all policy and method work” Alek claims, before adding hauntingly, ‘and it is the ends which matter’. To some, it doesn’t matter how many pairs of dead humans shoes have to be placed on a museum table, it doesn’t matter how many lives need to be expended to build a Siberian backroad, it doesn’t matter how many screams ring around a 210-metre squared chamber as Zyklon-B absolves a child of their capacity to breathe, live, love, smile, it doesn’t matter how many Muslims feel uncomfortable in their own city centre, it doesn’t matter if pogroms in Belfast, Sunderland, and Middlesbrough undo years of active cohesive communalism, it doesn’t matter how many brown men drown in the Channel on a hot summers day as they fight to change their children’s fate; it just doesn’t matter. In Britain, day-by-day, it is increasingly the ends that matter.
Sometimes it can feel closer than it is. The National Rebirth Party is unlikely to be in power anytime soon. But it’s on its way. The hue of the torch of fascism is structural; no brownshirts nor blackshirts are to march down Whitehall, at least not yet. But don’t let the lack of uniform belie the truth beneath fringe parties such as the NRP - a million white men marching against immigration, a country at boiling point which has begun to regularly spillover into actual ethnonationalist violence, and an economy which does very little to halt the decline of material conditions, sets the scene for another blaze of fire, deep from the pits of hell. We have been here before. Watch what they do. We are not safe now, and we may just become a whole lot less safe.
